On 12/1/2022, Council approved the first of two helicopter conversions to the F-Model. The Aviation Unit is requesting the second conversion from an E-Model to an F-Model. This conversion will help provide lower response times, enable heavier lifting capacity, and improve high-heat summer performance. Converting this remaining helicopter to an F-Model simplifies the parts inventory, operates on singular parameters, and extends the lifetime of the aircraft. The Police Department and Purchasing recommend awarding the contract to the sole source vendor, MD Helicopter, LLC (a Mesa business) for $2,700,000 based on the project estimate.
